Purpose of this job

Support the Professional Development (PD) team in achieving our goals of having self-organised volunteers who help CYF’s trainees and grads maximise their professional skills and who create and automate PD processes to help other volunteers and trainees.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have basic knowledge of Project Management: organising tasks and timelines for small projects with support
  • Manage and build relationships with stakeholders by actively listening to trainees, graduates, volunteers and staff members and managing their expectations.
  • Be a quick learner: you should be able to pick up new skills quickly and be willing to develop a basic understanding of our technology.
  • An effective communicator, especially remotely: you should be able to manage meetings and teams both remotely and in person
  • Open-minded and encouraging of input from experienced volunteers
  • Flexible with your hours: able to take weekly calls in the evening and work on some Saturdays
  • Enthusiastic about problem-solving in a growing organisation
  • Fluent in English
  • Passionate about improving access to vocational training for refugees and other disadvantaged people

Key Responsibilities aligned to the following CYF 2024 goals:

Community-centred approach

  • CYF has a committed, trained, well-resourced community leadership team in all regions
  • Ensure we have enough committed volunteers for each role per cohort (Leader, Coursework Reviewer, Coach, Mock-up interviewer, Syllabus, etc.)
  • Identify and train volunteer leads for each of the PD roles
  • Track active and inactive volunteers to engage or offboard them - and work on automating this task as much as possible.
  • Build and implement communication and training material so PD volunteers can deliver their role in the best form.
  • Bi-monthly volunteer meetings to celebrate/engage PD volunteers in person, when possible
  • Visiting 1 cohort per month (locations: London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow)


Efficiency

  • CYF has an established FOSS curriculum
  • CYF develops automated processes and self-sufficient formats 
  • Gather, understand and act upon feedback from volunteers every quarter
  • Support the processes whilst volunteers are being onboarded. This includes validating coursework, processing content on CYF Systems, setting up meetings, creating content, etc.
  • Identify automation opportunities within the PD processes.

  4. CYF team will review your exercise, and if it seems you are a good fit for the role, you’ll be invited for a 45-minute behavioural interview and present your plan. CYF staff and key volunteers will be in this interview.
