We are seeking a Finance Manager to join our team and help us manage our finances effectively to support our growth and impact.

CYF creates a unique, supportive learning community for people with the most limited economic, social and personal resources. All our classes are free and all our teachers are volunteers.

We train our people in software development and support them into well paid, highly skilled, professional careers in tech. We really do this and it really works.

We work online and face-to-face across many regions. We track every single trainee and alumni and measure the impact of our work in terms of their learning and employment outcomes.

ROLE SPECIFICS

  • Salary: Salary up to 35-50k (FTE) 
  • Hours: up to 32h/ week
  • Location: Remote (with option to work in London, Manchester, Birmingham or Glasgow co-working offices)
  • Benefits: flexibility in time management - working remotely & self-ownership
  • Reporting to: Head of Operations

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have experience in payroll management, account reporting for a charity and a limited company owned by the charity, day to day finance management, (e.g. bookkeeping, processing expenses payments, paying invoices, raising POs etc), annual accounts, and preparation for annual audits. 

Additionally, the Finance Manager will oversee donation processing, gift aid, and manage reporting for restricted funding grants. The role has opportunities for growth beyond these tasks to incorporate finance strategy, planning and projections. The Finance Manager will report to the Head of Operations and be responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are accurate, timely, and comply with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll for staff and contractors, ensuring compliance with payroll regulations, tax and social security laws
  • Working with external accountants to prepare and submit accurate financial reports to the Charity Commission and Companies House, in accordance with accounting standards and legal requirements
  • Manage all financial transactions, including purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and payments, and ensure they are recorded accurately and filed correctly in a timely manner
  • Manage bank accounts, reconciliations, and cash flow forecasting
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts, in collaboration with the management team and the Board of Trustees
  • Work with programme managers and other stakeholders to ensure that all expenses are tracked and coded correctly
  • Ensure that student expenses are processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Oversee donation processing and gift aid, and ensure that all donations are recorded accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations
  • Manage reporting for restricted funding grants, ensuring compliance with grant requirements
  • Prepare annual accounts and liaise with external auditors for the annual audit process
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and good financial management

Qualifications

  • A professional qualification in accounting or finance, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA
  • Experience in finance and accounting
  • Experience in managing payroll, accounts reporting, and preparation of annual accounts and audits
  • Experience in bookkeeping, experience of using Xero, strong  background in using Excel/Google Sheets for financial reporting
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations, with an eye for detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
