ROLE SPECIFICS

  • Hours: Part-time job: 16 hours per week
  • Salary: £24,960 FTE (pro-rata according to the hours per week)
  • Contract: 6 months with the possibility of extending for another 6 months
  • Work model: hybrid - one day a week in the local office or nearest class
  • Reporting to: Director of Product and Professional Development
  • Start date: January, 2025 if possible

Why is this role open?

CYF needs someone to support the local Sheffield community to build a self-organised, autonomous and accountable community of volunteers and students.

This will include representing CodeYourFuture in external events around Sheffield.

Main areas of focus for the Learning and Employment Support role

  • Engage with and support the student community (all courses) by weekly communicating with them via phone, email, sms
  • Supporting course conversion and completion rates
  • Identify possible leaders within the participants of ITD, learners on ITP or trainees in other courses that can bring this community together
  • Engage with and support graduates looking for jobs to gather feedback, encourage them to collaboratively work with the CYF community, and use the career mentorship programme

Secondary areas of focus:

  • Support Programme Ops team with regional tasks related to programme delivery logistics (venue, laptop loan, volunteer support, outreach)
  • Support the Community team with regional tasks related to volunteer experience and engagement (events and onboarding)
  • Represent CYF in external events, such as corporate events or conferences 

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have basic knowledge of Project Management: organising tasks and timelines for small projects with support
  • Manage and build relationships with stakeholders by actively listening to trainees, graduates, volunteers and staff members and managing their expectations.
  • Be a quick learner: you should be able to pick up new skills quickly and be willing to develop a basic understanding of our technology.
  • An effective communicator, especially remotely: you should be able to manage meetings and teams both remotely and in person
  • Open-minded and encouraging of input from experienced volunteers
  • Flexible with your hours: able to take weekly calls in the evening and work on some Saturdays
  • Enthusiastic about problem-solving in a growing organisation
  • Fluent in English
  • Passionate about improving access to vocational training for refugees and other disadvantaged people

  • Having had previous experience in any of the skills mentioned above

CYF creates a unique, supportive learning community for people with the most limited economic, social and personal resources. All our classes are free and all our teachers are volunteers.

We help people change their lives through tech training - from basic online skills to advanced software engineering. 

We work online and face-to-face. We provide personal support every single trainee, and we measure the impact of our work in terms of their learning and employment outcomes.

  4. The CYF team will review your exercise, and if it seems you are a good fit for the role, you’ll be invited for a 45-minute behavioural interview and present your plan. CYF staff and key volunteers will be in this interview.
