This is Atanas.
With his background in Computer Science and 11 years’ experience in the UK Higher Education sector, Atanas has had the opportunity to work in a variety of technology roles. During that time, he found that he really enjoys teaching coding and was convinced that everyone can learn to code as long as they have the right approach and find the right environment.
Atanas first heard about CodeYourFuture at the You Got This conference in Birmingham in January 2020 and found the perfect fit for his passion for teaching people to code!
What motivated you to get involved as a CodeYourFuture volunteer?
Atanas was motivated to join as a volunteer for several reasons. Most important were using his existing skills to help people in any way possible through his passion for teaching coding. However, he also wanted to meet new, similarly minded people, developing new skills and knowledge in the process. Furthermore, feeling valued and working as part of a team as well as adding to his CV were other key considerations for Atanas when signing up!
What have you been doing so far as a CodeYourFuture volunteer?
“I was a Module Lead on Coding Fundamentals for March & April 2020. Currently, I am supporting a group of 5 students on a weekly basis as their personal tutor/education mentor. On teaching days, I act as a teaching assistant on our virtual classes alongside other teaching volunteers. During weekdays I take part in student discussions on our Slack chat. Our first-ever cohort of students started classes mid-March 2020, fully remote and I helped with candidate support throughout the application process, interviewing candidates.”
What have you most enjoyed about your time at CodeYourFuture?
