ROLE SPECIFICS

  • Hours: Approximately 6–8 hours per month
  • Remuneration: Voluntary (reasonable expenses reimbursed)
  • Work model: Remote, with occasional in-person meetings (London) and Annual Strategy Retreat
  • Reporting to: CEO
  • Start date: as soon as possible.

Why is this role open?

The role is open to seek a senior technology professional to strengthen Board-level expertise in emerging trends, future skills, and strategic governance. This will support the charity’s mission to transform lives through tech education

Core Trustee Responsibilities
Trustees share collective responsibility for:

  • Acting in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries
  • Supporting effective governance and decision-making
  • Providing oversight of organisational strategy, performance, and risk
  • Safeguarding the organisation’s reputation, sustainability, and beneficiaries
  • Ensuring appropriate safeguarding awareness, policies, and oversight are in place
  • Providing appropriate challenge and support to the executive team
  • Contributing actively to Board and Committee discussions

Technology Contribution
You will help the Board:

  • Provide insight into emerging technology trends
  • Support strategic thinking on future skills and employability
  • Contribute to governance and risk oversight
  • Chair or contribute to the Board’s Committee
  • Provide specialist expertise at Board level

Candidate Profile
Essential

  • Operating at a senior level within the technology sector, with the credibility and perspective to contribute effectively at Board level
  • Strong understanding of the technology landscape and the implications of emerging developments for the future of work
  • Ability to contribute strategically at Board level
  • Sound judgment and willingness to provide constructive challenge
  • Commitment to CYF’s mission

Desirable

  • Previous Board or Trustee experience
  • Experience working with charities, non-profits, or regulated organisations

Time Commitment

  • Quarterly Board meetings (primarily virtual)
  • Participation in one annual in-person strategy retreat
  • Participation in a Board Committee
  • Preparation for meetings and occasional input between meetings
  • Average commitment: 6–8 hours per month
